Art-Fx Adda: Let’s Commemorate Art

On October 3rd and 4th, the stalwart students of Master’s in Visual Effects and Animation, A.J.K. MCRC, embellished M.F. Hussain Art Gallery, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) by exhibiting splendid Artwork, and organized few competitions and workshops alongside.

“…Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for…” this precious dialogue from the movie Dead Poets Society spoken by the character John Keating nudges us to the beauty of Art that we often forget to fathom amidst our over-occupied lives. Thanks to the students of Master’s in Visual Effects and Animation, A.J.K. MCRC, JMI for their earnest endeavor towards commemorating Art by adorning M.F. Hussain Art Gallery, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) with relishing work. Along with exhibiting nuances of Art made by the students, the event also carried a few competitions and workshops.  

Art-Fx Adda (AFA) was a two-day professional event, sponsored by Integrated Ideas, co-sponsored by Centre 4 Youth (C4Y) Foundation, Dusty Foot Productions, and Al-Madni Perfumes, inaugurated by Dr. Shohini Ghosh, Director AJK MCRC. Mr. Asad Rabbani, Head of Designs, India Today Group, and Mr. Panini Anand, Executive Editor at Aaj Tak digital were the Chief Guests of the event.  

The event was for unfettered audience wherefore it had unprecedented footfall for both the days. It was a forum for industry people and the general public to meet and interact with the students and comprehend the application of Art. A few students from the organizing committee got internship offers as well, and the stalls at Art-Fx Bazaar raised quite a good amount. The Exhibition included Digital Illustrations, Digital and Handpainted work, Photographs, Posters, Digital Showreel, and Physical Portfolios, whereas the Stalls included Hand-made and Green Artefacts – decorated jars, light jars, paper art, key chains, home décor items, bags, posters, stickers, portraits, paintings, and live sketching and gaming stall. Meanwhile, in the other section of the Gallery, short animated films, VFX films, 3D modeling, and animated showreel directed by the students were screened.

On Day 1, Design-A-Thon, a 24-hour Design Competition, organized by Centre 4 Youth (C4Y), was held. The competition, jutted to Day 2 of the event, aimed to induce a sense of responsibility towards social and environmental issues in the youth. The best of the designs shall be used by C4Y for various initiatives. Afreen Khan and Irfan Ali bagged the first position, Sana Aijaz and Neha Khan secured second and third positions respectively.

Photography Competition, also extended on Day 2, had a submission window of 24 hours and the entries were judged by Mr. Harish Nair, renowned film-maker and visiting faculty of AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia. Prachi Rawat was adjusted as the winner of the competition.

Film-making Competition, held on Day 2, was also judged by Mr. Harish Nair. The participants had to film a short movie on the given topic within 24 hours. “City of Silence” by Sameer Alam, Mashkoor, Ameya Vikram Singh won the competition.

Photography Workshop and Social Comic Workshop, aimed to shell and polish the talent of students, were held on Day 1 and 2 respectively. The former was taken by Mr. Harish Nair and the latter by a famous Cartoonist Mr. Sharad Sharma. By the end of the Social Comic Workshop, the attendees were asked to make a social comic on any issue of their choice.

The closing ceremony of the event was attended by Mr. Rupam Das, Founder,  and CEO of Aculi Labs, owns the Integrated Ideas, and Ms. Alka Tomar, Chairperson, Centre 4 Youth (C4Y).

The event was a success due to the coalesced efforts, enthralling energy, and the teamwork of the students, under the aegis of the Department of Visual Effects and Animations, AJK MCRC. The Course Coordinator Mr. Atul Sinha and Business Management Faculty, Mr. Dharam Arora, guided and supported the students in all the phases of the event. Moreover, the administration of Jamia Millia Islamia including the Chief Proctor, and Dr. Nuzhat Kazmi, Dean, Faculty of Fine arts, extended their support to the students throughout the two-day event.
