Department of Computer Science, Jamia Millia Islamia organised its 2nd Annual Alumni Meet, Milestone 2018 on Sunday, November 18, 2018
The meet was attended by more than 150 students that included alumni from different courses (MCA, PGDCA, M.Sc.) and current batch students of the department.
Prof. Monica Mehrotra, officiating head delivered the welcome address and presented the theme of the event. The chief guest of the meet was Prof. Shandar Ahmad, from SCIS, JNU, New Delhi who emphasized on the theme of the event “Academia and the Industry” and also shared his memory in Jamia. Training and Placement officer Prof. R.K. Suri highlighted role of Alma Mater and emphasized that inviting alumni is same as inviting Industry to the university. He also introduced Mentorship program soon to be launched for Jamia students under which current batch students will get choice to choose their mentor from industry and get benefited with their expertise. Mr. Prince Priyani (MCA Alumni batch-2013), Mr. Akhilesh Mishra (M.Sc. Alumni batch 2012), and Ms. Neha Kataria (MCA Alumni batch-2016) were also present as the Guest of Honor.
Mr. Prince, MCA Alumni batch-2013, is an IT Analyst and Project Lead at TCS, has been Managing operations of Enterprise Data Warehouse of Walgreens. After completing Graduation in Electronics from Delhi University and Masters for JMI in 2013, Joined TCS as assistant systems engineer trainee in 2013. Keeping pace with Industry trends, He is actively involved in the formation of Data Science and Automation Team.
Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, M.Sc. Alumni batch-2012, is Masters in Bioinformatics 2012 batch from computer science department, JMI. Akhilesh is pursuing his PhD from Super-computing facility for bioinformatics and computational biology at IIT Delhi. Recently he has submitted his PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. B. Jayaram. Akhilesh has qualified GATE, CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF, BINC JRF of his area and received BINC award from DBT India. In his PhD, he has published many research article in reputed peer reviewed journals like Nucleic Acids Research, DATABASE and METHODS in the field of Genomics. From last six years, Akhilesh is very closely attached to our department and is very keen to help his junior in all possible way he can.
Ms. Neha Kataria, MCA Alumni 2016, she got campus placement in TCS and did her internship there and then joined Mindfire Solutions Noida but because of her aim to join the government sector, she joined punjab intelligence technical force at the rank of sub inspector. She has been part of a few intelligence operations conducted in various parts of Punjab.
Every alumnus present in the event shared their student life sweet and sour moments along with suggestions for all sorts of career options from different roles in Industry to teaching and government jobs.
Dr. Suraiya Jabin thanked all alumni and current students for making the event successful. She reported that 29 students (out of 45) of current MCA batch 2019 have been placed in the annual package range of 3.5-6.6 Lacs which is the best placement so far in the history of Computer Science department and result of joint efforts of department and University placement cell and encouraged students to conduct the event every year for better placements.
